Chennai, Sep 5 (SocialNews.XYZ) Several parts of Tamil Nadu are likely to receive light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms on Saturday, with the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) forecasting wet weather particularly over the Western Ghats districts and parts of southern Tamil Nadu.
According to the weather department, atmospheric conditions over and around the State remain favourable for rainfall.
An upper-air cyclonic circulation persists over coastal Tamil Nadu and the adjoining southwest Bay of Bengal at an altitude of about 7.6 km.
A trough also extends from south interior Karnataka across Tamil Nadu to the Gulf of Mannar at around 0.9 km above mean sea level.
A weak low-pressure circulation that had formed in the lower atmosphere off the Tamil Nadu coast has merged with the prevailing weather system, increasing the possibility of scattered rainfall.
On Saturday, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms is likely at one or two places over the Western Ghats districts and Madurai, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram and Virudhunagar districts.
One or two places elsewhere in Tamil Nadu and in Puducherry and Karaikal may also receive light rain with thunderstorms.
From September 6 to 8, light rain is expected at isolated places across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
Rainfall activity could increase slightly on September 9 and 10, when light to moderate showers are forecast at isolated places over the Western Ghats districts, northern Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal.
Other parts of the State may receive light rain. The weather department said there would be no significant change in maximum temperatures over coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal between September 5 and 8.
However, temperatures could rise marginally over interior districts. Maximum temperatures in some interior areas are likely to remain two to four degrees Celsius above normal, while temperatures along the coast are expected to stay close to seasonal levels.
In Chennai and its suburbs, the sky is expected to remain partly cloudy on Saturday. Light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms is possible in some areas during the evening or night.
The maximum temperature in Chennai is likely to hover between 35 and 36 degrees Celsius, while the minimum could range between 26 and 27 degrees Celsius.
No warning has been issued for fishermen along the Tamil Nadu coast, Bay of Bengal or Arabian Sea from September 5 to 8.
